In Greenville, TX on May 12th, a young white buffalo calf was born. Born during a lighting, hail, thunderstorm, he was in turn named Lightning Medicine Cloud. This calf is the first known white male in 150 years, though there have been 2 other white females. He is said to be a 1 in 10 million occurance!
Yesterday an estimated 2,000 people attended the official naming ceremony for the young calf, who was still not completely steady on his feet. The Lakota Sioux tradition holds that Whope (HOH’-pah), the goddess of peace, once appeared in the form of a white buffalo calf. Arby Little Soldier, who’s land the calf was born, said that the buffalo “represents hope for all nations and races. He’s the pure blessed bull whose been sent here with the message and prophesy.”
