So this week has been filled with some really wonderful music, because of this I am posting 4 great songs.  I figure you can never get too much good music!  (PS. the picture above comes from an amazing website that will be in the next post.)

First song is from a a band called The Unseen Guest.  This is what they say about their 2nd album, which in itself is brilliant!

“Their 2nd album Checkpoint, like their first album, beautifully weaves two influences into a seamless whole. The instrumentation combines bluesy melodies with elements from pop, folk, rock and free jazz. At times world weary, at times full of joy, Checkpoint is a traveller’s diary, full of witnessed dualities and memories recorded on the spur of the moment. Not the clichés of East and West, but the stuff of novels and good movies: wanderlust versus security, love versus cynicism, the wildness of Saturday night and the regrets of Sunday morning.”

The Unseen Guest :: Listen My Son

The next is from a band ‘Portugal, The Man’.  This song just had such a fun chorus and seemed like a great song to listen to while making cookies or drinking your morning coffee while it is raining outside.

Next is from Rocky Votolato, who is from the great Northwest! (Seattle to be exact).  In his bio, he is described as this;

“his gravelly, sandpaper smooth voice and introspective lyrics mark him as that most rare of punk-rocker-turned-acoustic-troubadours: Votolato writes graceful, understated, human, unpretentious songs, demonstrating that simplicity is still a viable option for accomplished songwriters.”

Here is just one song from him that I absolutely love, hopefully you will too.

Rocky Votolato :: White Daisy Passing

And lastly, is a song from Bon Iver, called Skinny Lover.  This is a band, founded in 2007 by Justin Vernon, which also included three other members.  The name Bon Iver comes from a french phrase meaning “good winter”.  They chose this because most of the debut album was recorded in a remote cabin in Wisconsin.

During their live performances for the songs from For Emma, Forever Ago, they did something quite great.  They were really concerned that there wouldn’t be enough voices to duplicate the sound of the songs on the album in a live setting because of the extensive use of vocal harmony.  So to fix this, they passed out lyrics for some of the songs to the audience and had them sing along to compensate for this.  I bet it sounded amazing.  So here you go. . .. hope you enjoy!

Friday Song

I have made many of my friends a cd with this song on it, but I thought I would post it anyways.  I first heard it in the movie “Fantastic Mr. Fox” , which I think is a brilliant film.  But every time I hear this song, it instantly puts me in a good mood!  Hope you all had a wonderful week and got a little dance in.

The Bobby Fuller Four :: Let Her Dance

Friday Song

On Wednesday afternoon as I was driving around town, this song came on the radio.  Something about it was just so perfect at the moment.  Maybe because I was finally done with my project, but as it flowed through my car along with the fresh summer air, it made me feel so happy.

Cheers! To good music, amazing friends, great weather and all the love that flows through our lives everyday!

Ray Charles :: Unchain My Heart

Friday Song

My beautiful sister wrote me this week asking to put in a request for a Friday song.  Let me tell you, her request was spot on to how this week was for me!  Everyday I had little to no time for anything but working on my project, it was defiantly “a little less conversation a little more action” kind of week!

Elvis Presley  ::  A Little Less Conversation

“Baby close your eyes and listen to the music
Drifting through a summer breeze”

Here’s to you. . .

Friday Song

This week I couldn’t get enough of the song “Relax, Take It Easy”  from British singer-songwriter Mika.  It is from his 2007 album, “Life In Cartoon Motion.”  Doesn’t he look like fun?

Happy Aloha Friday!

Friday Song

This afternoon I heard this song, and for some reason, it made me really miss my friends and family that are all so far away.  Even though I am very happy with where I am in my life, I really wish I could see them more often then I do.

The song ‘Ships in the Night’ is from Portland, Oregon based artist Mat Kearney.  It is on his newest album that just came out on August 2nd, called Young Love which has already hit #4 on the Billboard Top 200.
